Major Investments in the Fes–Meknes Region: 2026 Multi-Billion-Dirham Budget to Improve Water, Electricity and Sanitation, With Priority for Rural Areas

Khalid Ait Taleb, Wali of the Fes–Meknes Region and Governor of the Prefecture of Fes, chaired yesterday, Monday, at the Wilaya headquarters in Fes, a meeting of the Administrative Board of the Fes–Meknes Regional Multi-Service Company, attended by Mohammed Boukili, President of the Council of the Group of Communes for Fes–Meknes Distribution, Mohammed Chaoui, the company’s CEO, along with other board members and executive directors.

According to information received by Fes News, the meeting was devoted to reviewing and approving the company’s 2026 budget, within the framework of the 2026–2030 multi-year plan, described as a strategic tool for managing investments and enhancing the sustainability and quality of basic services provided to the region’s residents.

On the investment side, the CEO presented a brief overview of the 2026 investment budget, with allocated appropriations of about 2 billion dirhams, distributed across drinking water, electricity, wastewater sanitation, and a shared sector. This program also falls under the 2026–2030 multi-year plan, for which the total budget is estimated at around 9.9 billion dirhams.

These investments, according to the same information, aim to support comprehensive development in the Fes–Meknes region by strengthening and modernizing key infrastructure, improving the performance of distribution networks and service quality, increasing water storage capacity, and upgrading wastewater sanitation networks—while integrating sustainable solutions for the reuse of treated wastewater. The budget also places special emphasis on rural areas by expanding drinking water and electricity supply networks to benefit rural hamlets and reduce isolation, helping narrow territorial disparities and achieve more balanced regional development.

At the end of the meeting, the Administrative Board unanimously approved the 2026 budget and the 2026–2030 multi-year plan, reaffirming continued efforts to ensure service continuity, improve network efficiency, and enhance the quality of services delivered to citizens—especially in rural areas—within a collective commitment and partnership aimed at bringing public services closer to users and supporting sustainable regional development.
