Horrific Tragedy in Spain: 4 Members of a Moroccan Family Die of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Malaga (Spain) – November 25, 2025

Four members of a single Moroccan family died today, Tuesday, inside their home in the municipality of Torrox in Malaga province, southern Spain, due to a leak of toxic carbon monoxide (CO) gas from a faulty home heating device.

The victims are:

  • A father and mother in their fifties
  • Their 19-year-old son
  • Their 17-year-old daughter

The four bodies were found inside the house located in the “El Pontel” neighborhood after neighbors reported to authorities a strange smell and the absence of any movement from the house throughout the day. Emergency teams, civil protection, and Spanish National Police arrived immediately, but found only confirmation of death at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred at night, as a result of a technical malfunction in the heating device that led to the leak of toxic gas without any family members noticing, causing them to die of asphyxiation while sleeping.

Carbon monoxide is a silent killer with no color or odor, and is one of the most common causes of accidental deaths in winter in Europe, especially when using old heating devices or those not subject to regular maintenance.

This tragedy is the second of its kind to strike the Moroccan community in Spain in less than two weeks, following the death of three Moroccan siblings under similar circumstances in the city of Barcelona a few days ago.

Moroccan associations in Spain expressed their deep sadness and called on community members to:

  • Ensure maintenance of heating devices and chimneys
  • Install carbon monoxide detectors in homes
  • Ventilate homes regularly even in severe cold

Spanish authorities are investigating the incident, while the Moroccan community in Malaga awaits arrangements for burying the victims and providing psychological and material support to the bereaved relatives.

May God have mercy on the victims and grant their families patience and solace.
