Moroccan international Yassine Bounou, goalkeeper of Saudi club Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia) and the Moroccan national team, was crowned Best Goalkeeper in Africa for 2025 during the CAF Awards 2025 ceremony held on Wednesday evening in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Bounou managed to outperform strong competitors:
- Monir El Kajoui, the Moroccan goalkeeper of Renaissance Berkane (Morocco)
- Ronwen Williams, the South African goalkeeper of Mamelodi Sundowns
This is Bounou’s second time winning this continental award after claiming it in 2023, further cementing his status as one of the most prominent goalkeepers in Africa and beyond Africa, especially after an exceptional 2024-2025 season in which he shone brightly with Al-Hilal and the Atlas Lions.
This latest achievement adds to Bounou’s already impressive list of individual honours, including the Best Goalkeeper award in La Liga with Sevilla, the Zamora Trophy, and his decisive role in Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The city of Rabat hosted this highly anticipated annual African football event on Wednesday evening, during which the winner of the 2025 African Ballon d’Or and several other prestigious awards were also announced.
