Bamako – November 11, 2025 – The Republic of Mali is preparing to launch the activities of the first edition of the International Defense and Security Exhibition “Bamako Expo 2025” (BAMEX 2025), which is the first of its kind on the African continent, amid a wide influx of foreign participants from African, Asian, and Arab countries, despite intensive media campaigns about the economic blockade imposed on the capital Bamako by armed groups.
The exhibition begins today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, and will continue for four days until November 14, at the International Conference Center in Bamako, bringing together companies and delegations specialized in the defense and security industry, with special focus on technological innovations and strategic partnerships to address security challenges in the Sahel region.
Wide International Participation Despite Difficult Circumstances
The Malian capital witnessed a notable influx of participating delegations, including representatives of leading Turkish defense companies, alongside African delegations from regional countries, and Asian and Arab delegations, reflecting international interest in strengthening security cooperation in Africa. This exhibition comes as primarily a Turkish initiative, but it opens its doors to participants from various continents, aiming to exchange expertise and showcase the latest technologies in cybersecurity, drones, and military equipment.
Despite media reports about an economic blockade imposed by the group “Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin” (JNIM), affiliated with Al-Qaeda, on Bamako since last September, which led to shortages of fuel and basic commodities, preparations for the exhibition proceeded normally. Official Malian sources confirmed that the event will contribute to enhancing the country’s positive image and attracting investments in the defense sector.
Fuel Crisis Moving Toward Gradual Resolution
In a related context, recent reports indicated that Mali’s fuel crisis, resulting from the blockade, has begun to gradually recede, with new supplies arriving and government efforts to secure overland routes. It is believed that the success of the exhibition will enhance international confidence in the stability of the security situation, which may contribute to resolving remaining economic challenges.
The exhibition is expected to witness the signing of cooperation agreements between Mali and its international partners, with a focus on combating terrorism and organized crime in the Sahel region. This event comes at a time when West Africa faces an escalation in security threats, as highlighted by recent UN Security Council reports.
