Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) – The city of Mantes-la-Jolie in the Yvelines department (78) witnessed an exceptional celebration of the 50th anniversary of the victorious Green March on Saturday, November 8, 2025, as the city was adorned with Moroccan national colors in a festive family atmosphere. Thousands of Moroccans gathered from various parts of Île-de-France, in addition to the cities of Lille, Orléans, and Rennes, in an unprecedented event organized by the Moroccan associative network with support from Moroccan consulates in the Paris region.
Celebration Details and Wide Participation
The festivities began with a grand march starting from Place Saint-Anne at 13:00, featuring more than 100 motorcycles, three decorated trucks, a bus, and a large number of pedestrians carrying Moroccan and French flags. The march proceeded toward the Michel Cépède exhibition park, where artistic performances, workshops, and a historical exhibition showcasing the stages of the Green March on November 6, 1975, were held. The artistic program included performances by prominent Moroccan artists such as Aicha Maya, Abdelhak Azrou, Mustapha Bourgogne, Orchestre Arraaz, and Khalid Alaoui, in addition to folkloric groups such as Dakka Koutoubia, Arfa, and Ahidous.
Ambassador Samira Sitail attended the celebration and followed the artistic performances alongside members of the community, giving the event an official character. The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in France confirmed that this event reflects national cohesion and pride in recent diplomatic achievements, especially Security Council Resolution 2797, which supports the autonomy initiative as a realistic solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
Significance of the Celebration and Role of the Community
The choice of Mantes-la-Jolie to host the event came due to the importance of the Moroccan community there, which includes approximately 156,000 Moroccans in the consular district, with the opening of a general consulate in the city in June 2025. The celebration crowns the efforts of the associative network in strengthening national identity and transmitting values of unity to new generations, in the context of the international momentum of the 50th anniversary, which witnessed similar events in Paris and the French Senate.
The event sparked positive interaction among French passersby who joined the celebration, which strengthens French-Moroccan friendship and highlights the community’s role as a cultural bridge.
This event represents a model of parallel diplomacy practiced by the Moroccan diaspora abroad, affirming its commitment to territorial unity and the royal vision.
