Water supply returns to normal in Fez. ONEE explains the causes of the disturbance and apologizes to residents

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water – Water Sector in the Fes-Meknes Regional Directorate issued a clarification statement regarding the water supply situation in the cities of Fes, Meknes, and their surrounding areas.

The statement explained that a partial disruption occurred in the supply of drinking water to some neighborhoods in the southern area of the city of Fes on the evening of Sunday, October 12, 2025. This disruption was caused by an emergency fault on the transmission pipeline supplying Fes and Meknes with drinking water from the treatment plant at Idriss I Dam. The fault was detected on the morning of Saturday, October 11. Maintenance teams from the Office, accompanied by the contracted specialized company, promptly intervened to repair the leak, enabling the restoration of normal water supply starting from the night of Sunday.

The statement indicated that no disruptions were reported in the water supply to the city of Meknes during this period.

Furthermore, the Office pointed out that the treatment plant at Idriss I Dam currently meets less than 15% of the water needs, while Fes is regularly and continuously supplied with drinking water from the Saïs catchment area and the Oued Sebou treatment station operated by the National Office, as well as production facilities managed by the Fes-Meknes Regional Multi-Service Company.

The National Office expressed its gratitude to all residents for their understanding and affirmed that its teams continue working diligently to ensure reliable production and supply of drinking water to the residents of Fes, Meknes, and neighboring areas under the best possible conditions.
