Following his appointment as acting governor of the Fes-Meknes region last Friday, Khalid Zerouali promptly began his duties by attending the ordinary October session of the Regional Council, held on Monday morning at the council headquarters adjacent to the governor’s office in Fes city.
Zerouali’s presence extended beyond merely overseeing the council session, as he immediately held a series of meetings with external service officials and local authority representatives. Observers interpret this as a strong indication of his intention to revitalize the regional administration and advance several stalled files during recent times.
His appointment is widely expected to inject fresh momentum into the development trajectory of the Fes-Meknes region, given his extensive administrative experience and diverse career path.
Born in 1965 in Guelmim, Zerouali is a graduate of the Mohammedia School of Engineers. His professional journey is marked by roles both in the private and public sectors. He began his career in 1994 as head of social affairs at Omnium Nord-Africain, then held senior managerial positions at Royal Air Maroc. In July 2003, he joined the Ministry of Interior as Governor and Director of International Cooperation. By June 2005, he was appointed Director of Migration and Border Surveillance, later becoming the regional governor and director of the same department in November 2010. He has earned a reputation as a skilled negotiator and coordinator, especially through his dealings on migration with European partners.
Zerouali’s role is critical for overseeing urban development, investment promotion, and social and security coordination in one of Morocco’s key regions. His profile suggests a capacity to align regional policies with national strategic priorities effectively.
