Geneva – On Monday, Morocco reiterated before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva its urgent call to stop Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need to resume negotiations to establish lasting peace in the Middle East.
In his speech delivered on behalf of Morocco during the general debate on the situation of human rights in Palestine and the other occupied Arab territories, Ambassador Omar Zniber, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, called for the opening of all crossings into Gaza to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and ensure the safe return of displaced civilians to their homes.
The ambassador recalled that King Mohammed VI, as President of the Al Quds Committee, ordered the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge to Gaza, which has enabled nearly 300 tons of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and rescue equipment, to be delivered via unprecedented routes to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
Furthermore, he added, Morocco renews its urgent call to end Israeli attacks in the West Bank, especially house demolitions and forced evictions, and to stop violations against the city of Jerusalem, urging respect for the 1967 status quo governing Islamic and Christian holy sites in the holy city.
He also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to preserving the central role of UNRWA and other Palestinian institutions responsible for humanitarian assistance.
Finally, the diplomat welcomed the broad international momentum in favor of recognizing the State of Palestine, which aligns with growing support for the two-state solution considered the most rational and realistic way to break the cycle of violence.
Morocco reiterates its firm position in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and its pursuit of peace and stability in the region through respect for international law and justice.
