The European Union announces the launch of the Entry-Exit System (EES), and Moroccans are concerned

The European Union, through its missions in several Arab countries including Morocco, announced the launch of a new border management system called the “Entry/Exit System” (EES). This system will begin implementation on October 12, 2025, and will be fully operational by April 10, 2026, at all European border points.

The digital system aims to replace manual passport stamps by recording precise biometric data for each traveler, including fingerprints and facial images, along with information such as name, travel document, and the dates and places of entry and exit. The system also allows for automatic monitoring of overstayed visas or denied entries.

The system applies to all non-EU citizens, whether they require a Schengen visa or are exempt from it, including all Arab travelers. For visa-exempt citizens from the UAE and Qatar, their biometric data will be recorded upon their first entry. Citizens of other Arab countries that require a visa will have their data recorded at every entry and exit, with close monitoring during their stay.

The system is expected to accelerate the crossing process through electronic gates, detect attempts to forge identity or travel documents, and enhance the EU’s ability to combat irregular migration.

EU missions have urged travelers to comply with official instructions and ensure their passports are valid, noting that self-service systems will soon be expanded to facilitate biometric registration at airports and border crossings.
