Rabat – Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), made an inspection visit to the Grand Stadium in Tangier to review the progress of ongoing works, which were reportedly completed in record time, according to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation on Saturday.
Infantino was accompanied by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, and Younes Tazi, Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. During the visit, officials overseeing the works provided detailed explanations about the renovations carried out at the stadium, all executed by Moroccan labor, national expertise, and Moroccan companies, as published by the federation on its website.
This impressive achievement drew the admiration of Infantino, who congratulated Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, affirming that this sporting landmark enhances the kingdom’s stature on the global football stage, especially through hosting major sporting events like the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain.
In a statement broadcast on the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s YouTube channel, Infantino said: “This stadium is a clear example of Morocco’s significant progress, a great footballing nation looking towards the future. As the host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Morocco is truly determined to achieve remarkable accomplishments for its people and the entire world.”
He added, “This is truly wonderful. I congratulate everyone involved, guided by His Majesty the King, for this extraordinary achievement in every respect (…) It is a real gem and will become a symbol of the city of Tangier.”
