French Newspaper “Le Monde” Publishes a Propaganda Article Recycling Old Allegations About Morocco

Rabat, Morocco – An article published by the French newspaper “Le Monde” titled «Au Maroc, une atmosphère de fin de règne pour Mohammed VI» has sparked a wide controversy, with observers considering it an attempt to distort the image of the situation in Morocco. The article, which was structured as an analytical study, recycled repetitive narratives about the monarchy and the issue of succession, relying on sources known for their critical stances toward the Kingdom.

The article focused on the idea of a “reign-ending atmosphere,” attempting to suggest a hypothetical crisis related to the future of the throne. However, on-the-ground facts show the continuous presence of King Mohammed VI in managing the country’s affairs through regular speeches, the inauguration of strategic projects, and the reception of official and international figures. The monarchy’s presence was also evident in social and humanitarian initiatives, such as the recent launch of an airlift to deliver aid to Gaza.

The article also relied on visual comparisons between personal photos of the King and official photos to construct a contradictory narrative. This approach, which is based on scenes from private life, does not reflect the reality of the balance between official responsibilities and the human aspects of the Moroccan monarch’s life.

Furthermore, the article addressed the topic of “succession” by referencing Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and other members of the royal family, within the context of scenarios that analysts described as superficial. These scenarios ignore the constitutional framework and the historical legitimacy that govern the succession of the throne in Morocco.

In terms of sources, “Le Monde” relied on journalists known for their negative positions toward Morocco, such as Omar Brouksy and Nicolas Pelham, which confirms its adoption of an editorial line that serves a discourse of doubt.

In contrast, the article ignored the continuous developments and reforms that Morocco is witnessing in various sectors, in addition to its growing diplomatic presence in Africa and the Mediterranean region. It also failed to mention the strong bond between the King and his people, which is clearly demonstrated during national occasions such as the Throne Day and Youth Day.

The recycling of these narratives in the French press reflects the continuation of a discrediting media campaign. Nevertheless, the Moroccan reality remains a testament to a path of continuous reforms and development and a stable institutional presence.
