Fès News – Thursday, August 7, 2025

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level alert, warning that from Thursday, August 7 until Sunday, August 10, 2025, several regions of the kingdom will be hit by a severe heatwave, strong thunderstorms with hail, and powerful wind gusts.

Scorching Heat Across Multiple Provinces
Extremely high temperatures between 40 °C and 47 °C are expected in various provinces, especially:

August 7–10: Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rahamna, Marrakech, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Youssoufia, Tan‑Tan, Guelmim, and Laayoune.

Peak temperatures up to 47 °C projected in southeastern areas such as Tata, Taroudant, Assa‑Zag, Smara, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Boujdour.

Starting Friday, August 8, northern provinces like Safi, Sidi Bennour, Aït Melloul, Chtouka‑Aït Baha, and Agadir‑Ida‑Outanane will also be impacted by the intense heat.

Thunderstorms Forecast in Fès and Parts of the Atlas
Locally intense thunderstorms are predicted, bringing 15 to 35 mm of rain, hail, and strong winds—potentially causing floods and landslides in valleys and ravines. These will affect:

Thursday, August 7, from 13:00 to 23:00: The provinces of Azilal, Boulemane, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Taourirt, Guercif, Taza, Khénifra, Al Haouz, Ifrane, Tinghir, and the Greater Fès region.

Authorities Urge Caution
Officials advise the public to:

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak heat hours.

Be cautious when using heat-generating tools or cooking outdoors to prevent wildfires.

Stay alert to flood risks, especially in valleys and mountainous areas.

Keep an eye on children and the elderly during this period.

Climate Extremes Highlight Urgent Adaptation Needs
This situation reflects unprecedented climate fluctuations experienced in Morocco this summer—raising important questions about climate adaptation strategies, particularly in vulnerable regions like Fès–Meknès, which combines mountainous terrain with fragile rural infrastructure.
