The European Commission stresses: Gaza is an integral part of Palestine, and any demographic change is unacceptable.

The European Commission, in an official statement issued today from Brussels, affirmed its firm position that the Gaza Strip constitutes an integral part of the future Palestinian state, expressing its categorical rejection of any attempts to alter the demographic or territorial status of the Strip. The Commission emphasized the continuation of its diplomatic efforts with the Israeli side to facilitate the entry of more humanitarian aid into Gaza, amid the escalating humanitarian crisis suffered by the Strip’s residents.

The European Commission clarified that its position aligns with the vision of a two-state solution, which guarantees the unity of Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank. It indicated that any attempts to change the demographic or territorial situation in Gaza are unacceptable, in an allusion to reports of potential Israeli plans to reoccupy the Strip. The European Council has, in previous statements, reiterated its call to preserve the viability of the two-state solution as the basis for a just and lasting peace in the region.

In a related context, the Commission confirmed its ongoing communication with Israeli authorities to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, which suffers from a tight blockade and humanitarian conditions described by international reports as “unbearable.” The Commission noted that it is working to lift the restrictions imposed on the entry of aid, including food, medicine, and medical supplies, to meet the urgent needs of the Strip’s residents who live in extremely difficult conditions.

Reports indicate that the situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly since October 2023, where Israeli military operations have led to the death of more than 60,000 people, and have caused the death of at least 188 people, including 94 children, due to malnutrition and famine. In this regard, the Commission called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages, stressing the need to protect civilians and avoid further human casualties that increase day by day.

The European Commission renewed its call to the international community to work collectively to address the crisis in Gaza, while affirming its support for the Palestinian National Authority and its reform program. It pointed out that a political solution remains the only way to achieve stability in the region, emphasizing the importance of protecting the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent state on their national territory.

The statements from the European Commission come at a sensitive time, as humanitarian and political challenges in the Gaza Strip continue to mount. As diplomatic and humanitarian efforts persist, the European Union’s position remains clear in its support for Palestinian rights and its work to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s residents, while affirming that a comprehensive political solution is the only path to achieving peace and stability in the region, which has seen increasing tensions for several months.
