FIFA Opens Regional Office in Morocco in Preparation for World Cup 2030

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has inaugurated its new regional office near the Moroccan capital, Rabat, marking its first official presence in North Africa. This opening comes five years ahead of Morocco hosting the 2030 World Cup, which will be jointly organized with Spain and Portugal. The regional office is expected to enhance preparations for this major global event and bolster the presence of Moroccan and continental football on the international stage.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described this step as historic for football in Morocco, Africa, and globally, noting that the new office will oversee all organizational preparations related to the 2030 World Cup in the region. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Football Federation, on the sidelines of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Nigeria, held in Rabat.

With this office and Morocco’s hosting of the 2030 World Cup, the country becomes the second African nation to organize the tournament after South Africa in 2010, ending a long series of previous bids to host the event. It is worth noting that FIFA currently has several regional offices worldwide, including four in Africa located in Dakar, Brazzaville, Kigali, and Johannesburg. The new office in Morocco represents a strategic addition to supporting football in North Africa.

With this new opening, FIFA reaffirms its commitment to developing football in the region and achieving an exceptional organization of the 2030 World Cup, eagerly anticipated by football fans across the globe.
