Social Security Crisis: Small Businesses in Fes-Meknes Region Appeal Amid Economic Slowdown, Chamber of Commerce Responds with Support Program

Fes, Morocco – Amid a challenging economic environment, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Fes-Meknes region have issued an urgent appeal, expressing their inability to meet their obligations to the National Social Security Fund (CNSS). Business owners attribute this difficulty to the prolonged economic slowdown since the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to testimonies from company owners, the financial strain is severe, forcing them to face difficult choices: either pay the dues and risk insolvency, or delay payments and face fines and legal penalties.

Chamber of Commerce Responds: Balancing Business Survival with Social Rights

In response to these concerns, Mr. Abdelali Shinoun, Vice President of the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, and Services of the Fes-Meknes region, stated that the chamber is working diligently to rescue many businesses facing these challenges.

Mr. Shinoun emphasized that while the chamber supports struggling enterprises, it insists on the importance of fulfilling social obligations to the CNSS, stressing that these commitments cannot be waived.

He revealed a comprehensive program designed to qualify, encourage, and support affected companies. The chamber also plays a key role in facilitating amicable settlements between businesses and the social security fund, allowing companies to regularize their financial status in a lawful and cooperative manner.

The official’s statements highlight the chamber’s efforts to strike a balance between sustaining business resilience and protecting workers’ fundamental rights, through practical programs and mediation initiatives aimed at saving small businesses from bankruptcy amid the current economic hardships.
