Major Drug Smuggling Attempt Foiled: Over 3 Tons of Hashish Seized Off El Jadida Coast

In a high-profile security operation, Royal Gendarmerie units from the El Jadida district successfully thwarted a massive international drug smuggling attempt in the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2025. The operation intercepted over three tons of hashish (shira) that were intended to be trafficked from “Lkouahi” beach, located between the cities of El Jadida and Jorf Lasfar.

According to preliminary information received by Fes News, the successful bust was the result of precise intelligence gathering and high-level coordination between multiple security units, including the Maritime Gendarmerie, Royal Navy, and specialized teams equipped with trained sniffer dogs and state-of-the-art night-vision drones.

The operation led to the seizure of a fishing boat suspected of being used by the smuggling network. Several individuals were also arrested on suspicion of involvement in the illicit operation. They were placed in custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, pending further investigations to identify additional suspects and uncover the national and international reach of the criminal network.

This operation underscores Morocco’s continued vigilance in securing its coastlines—particularly around the strategic maritime area of Jorf Lasfar, which remains under close surveillance as part of the country’s efforts to combat smuggling and international drug trafficking networks.
