King Mohammed VI Approves 17 New Judicial Appointments

The Superior Council of the Judicial Authority (CSPJ) announced on Thursday that King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as President of the Council, has approved a series of appointments to several key positions within the Kingdom’s judiciary as part of the January 2025 session.

New Appointments Reflect Ongoing Renewal of Judicial Elites

The new appointments cover 17 leadership positions, representing approximately 7% of the total senior roles in Moroccan courts. This move is part of a continuous effort to rejuvenate the judicial elite and strengthen institutional efficiency.

Details of the Appointments

The approved appointments span various levels of the judicial hierarchy, including:

  • 6 Presidents of Courts of Appeal,
  • 1 Attorney General at a Commercial Court of Appeal,
  • 5 Presidents of First Instance Courts,
  • 5 Public Prosecutors at First Instance Courts.

Promoting Gender Balance and Renewing Expertise

A major highlight of this session is the inclusion of three female magistrates in leadership roles, including a woman appointed for the first time to such a position. This reflects the Council’s commitment to enhancing female representation and promoting equal access to senior judicial positions.

Additionally, two magistrates have been appointed for the first time as heads of courts, demonstrating a dedication to renewing profiles and valuing new competencies.

Call for Commitment, Ethics, and Rigor

In its statement, the CSPJ congratulated the appointed magistrates on the royal trust bestowed upon them and called on them to demonstrate rigor, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. They were urged to ensure respect for fair trial guarantees, timely handling of cases, and effective enforcement of judicial decisions.

Part of the Judicial Reform Process

These new appointments are part of the ongoing reform of the Moroccan judicial system, launched several years ago. They aim to adapt judicial governance to citizens’ expectations while consolidating the independence, transparency, and performance of the courts.
