July 1, 2025: By-elections to Fill 80 Vacant Seats in Local Councils Across Fez-Meknes Region and the Kingdom

A decision issued by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has officially set July 1, 2025, as the date for holding by-elections in several local councils to fill more than 80 vacant seats. These vacancies are distributed between general electoral districts and seats reserved for women.

According to issue no. 7409 of the Official Gazette, the Minister of the Interior has called on voters in the affected electoral districts to head to the polls on July 1 to elect their new representatives in local councils.

The ministerial decision stipulates that individual candidacy declarations must be submitted in person by each candidate at the offices of the relevant local administrative authority. The submission period runs from Thursday, June 12, 2025, until noon on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

The official election campaign will begin at midnight on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and will continue until midnight on Monday, June 30, 2025.

These by-elections will cover local councils in dozens of provinces across the Kingdom, including: Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Nador, Driouch, Jerada, Berkane, Taourirt, Figuig, Fez, Meknes, Sefrou, Taounate, Skhirat-Temara, Sidi Kacem, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khénifra, Khouribga, El Jadida, Berrechid, Settat, Sidi Bennour, Marrakech, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, Kalaat Sraghna, Essaouira, Safi, Errachidia, Midelt, Zagora, and Tiznit.

This electoral process is part of the regular cycle of renewing local representation and ensuring the smooth functioning of elected councils, following the occurrence of vacancies due to various reasons.
