“Raya” 2024–2025 Operation Earns Ministerial Commendation in Six Provinces of Fes-Meknes… Rural Healthcare Still Faces Major Challenges

The Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Fes-Meknes region, under the leadership of Dr. Salima Saâssaâ, held a ceremony on Wednesday to honor the six provinces involved in the 2024–2025 edition of Operation “Raya.”

This recognition comes in the wake of a letter of praise and appreciation received by the regional directorate from the Minister of Health and Social Protection, acknowledging the remarkable results achieved by these provinces in meeting the goals of the campaign.

The honored provinces—Taza, Sefrou, Taounate, Boulemane, El Hajeb, and Ifrane—demonstrated high efficiency in delivering essential, specialized, and preventive healthcare services to remote areas vulnerable to cold waves, in line with the High Royal Instructions.

The ceremony was attended by heads of departments and units from the regional directorate, health and social protection delegates, directors of health institutions, rural health officials, and communication officers from the six recognized provinces.

The event began with recitations from the Holy Qur’an and the national anthem. Dr. Saâssaâ used the occasion to commend the dedication of all healthcare workers across the region—from medical and nursing staff to technical and administrative personnel—working in health centers, hospitals, and mobile medical units. She also highlighted the national catch-up campaign for children under 18 against measles and other vaccinations, emphasizing that Operation “Raya” was a vital opportunity to boost immunization and conduct awareness sessions to eliminate measles. She urged provincial officials to redouble efforts in addressing ongoing challenges in the region.

The ceremony also included the reading of the ministerial commendation letter and a presentation of the key outcomes of Operation “Raya” for the 2024–2025 cycle. Speakers expressed their gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed their commitment to responsible participation in achieving the operation’s goals. The event concluded with a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

Despite the progress made through certain health initiatives, significant challenges remain across several provinces in the Fes-Meknes region. Persistent complaints highlight the poor quality of basic health services in many remote rural areas. These issues include shortages in human and logistical resources, inadequate infrastructure in health centers, and limited access to specialized care—raising concerns about the equity and comprehensiveness of healthcare service distribution. This underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to address these gaps and ensure every citizen’s right to quality healthcare.
