Drinking water has returned to the taps of residents in Ouled Amala village, located in Ain Chkaf commune of the Moulay Yacoub province, following a multi-day outage that sparked widespread dissatisfaction among locals, especially amid rising temperatures and urgent daily water needs.
The water supply resumed after the direct intervention of the district governor, Mr. Mohamed Samir El Khamlichi, who ordered the mobilization of all concerned departments to find an urgent solution and restore service as soon as possible in response to residents’ repeated appeals and ongoing struggles with water interruptions.
An emergency action plan was implemented in coordination with the provincial authority, the local commune, and the National Office for Drinking Water. This plan addressed technical and financial problems affecting the network and mobilized the necessary resources to resume supply.
Simultaneously, the local authority launched a campaign to collect overdue payments from some beneficiaries, successfully recovering approximately 65,000 MAD out of 700,000 MAD owed, which helped partially finance the network’s reactivation costs.
On the ground, technical teams from the National Office, in coordination with the commune’s services, conducted extensive maintenance operations, including locating and repairing leaks and strengthening water transfer infrastructure, aiming to ensure service continuity and prevent future crises.
These interventions reflect the proximity-based approach adopted by the district governor, highlighting his prompt response to citizens’ needs and commitment to securing basic services in rural areas, particularly given challenges related to infrastructure and limited water resources.
Many residents of the village expressed relief at the return of water to their homes, appreciating the swift response and effective intervention by authorities and praising the coordination among various stakeholders to overcome what they described as a “difficult” situation, especially during the outage period.
