Morocco Enhances South-South Medical Cooperation with Mauritania Through Advanced Surgical Operations and Training

Nouakchott, Mauritania – As part of strengthening the South-South African cooperation approach, a specialized Moroccan medical team undertook a series of complex surgical operations in liver and pancreas specialties at the National Hospital in Nouakchott on Friday and Saturday. This activity comes as part of the activation of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Ibn Sina University Hospital Center in Rabat and the Mauritanian National Hospital.

Exchange of Expertise and Support for Regional Health Security

The Moroccan delegation includes an elite group of highly qualified doctors and surgeons. Their role was not limited to performing complex surgical procedures; they also provided intensive training sessions for Mauritanian medical staff. This step reflects the Kingdom of Morocco’s firm commitment to sharing its advanced medical expertise and embodies its keenness to enhance regional health security, moving beyond the narrow logic of competition that may characterize some parties in the region.

A Model for Participatory Cooperation and African Solidarity

This joint effort between Morocco and Mauritania embodies a practical and tangible model of an effective Moroccan participatory approach. This approach is based on the principles of solidarity and joint development among Southern countries, and seeks to solidify Morocco’s presence as a trusted actor and strategic partner in supporting and developing African health policies.

This cooperation underscores Morocco’s vision aimed at building strong and sustainable partnerships with sister African nations, based on the exchange of knowledge and expertise for the mutual benefit of African peoples, and enhancing their collective ability to face health challenges.
