Rabat, Morocco – Civil servants, teachers, and students in Morocco are anticipating the number of public holidays for Eid al-Adha 2025, which will vary depending on the official date of the holiday.
According to astronomical calculations, Moroccan astronomer Ali Amraoui informed “Le Site info” that Eid al-Adha is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Amraoui explained that the month of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 will complete 30 days, and the first day of the Hijri month will coincide with Thursday, May 29, 2025. Consequently, the Day of Arafat is anticipated to be on Friday, June 6.
Based on these projections, if Eid al-Adha is celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025, public sector employees will only benefit from two days of holiday: Saturday and Sunday. However, if Eid al-Adha were to fall on Friday, June 6 (an unlikely scenario according to astronomical forecasts), they would receive a holiday extending from June 6 to June 8.
It’s important to note that the determination of the beginning of Hijri months in Morocco primarily relies on the sighting of the crescent moon with the naked eye, even though astronomical calculations provide high accuracy. As is customary, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs is the official authority responsible for announcing the date of Eid al-Adha after the moon sighting.
