In the face of a fast-paced lifestyle and increasing work pressures, maintaining a balance between professional and personal life has become a daily challenge for many Moroccans—especially in major cities where job demands often overshadow time reserved for family and personal well-being.
Experts in occupational psychology warn that the absence of this balance leads to higher levels of stress and burnout. It also negatively impacts productivity, mental health, and physical well-being. Local surveys reveal that a large segment of workers in both the public and private sectors complain about long working hours and insufficient breaks, which limit their ability to engage in social life or pursue personal interests.
Although Morocco’s labor code stipulates a fixed number of working hours per week, the implementation of these regulations varies across sectors. Some private-sector employees report frequent violations that lead to chronic fatigue, while public-sector workers often suffer from rigid schedules and administrative monotony.
On a more positive note, recent years have seen some companies adopt flexible work models, such as remote work or time-sharing arrangements, in an effort to improve work-life quality—especially after the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped traditional views of the workplace.
Civil society groups and labor unions have called for the promotion of a culture that values psychological and professional balance. This includes revising management policies, encouraging companies to implement flexible measures, and emphasizing the importance of continuous training in areas like self-development and time management.
At the same time, social researchers stress that individuals also bear part of the responsibility. They recommend adopting healthy daily habits, setting clear priorities, and dedicating time to rest and human relationships, which are essential foundations for a balanced and stable life.
While the formulation of comprehensive public policies that consider workers’ mental health is still awaited, both individual and collective awareness of the importance of balance remains a pressing necessity in a society caught in an unrelenting pace of change.
