In an eagerly awaited sports event, Fez hosted a press conference yesterday to announce the launch of the 2025 Morocco Rally, which will take place next October. This rally, marking the final round of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), is a significant event before heading to the iconic Dakar Rally. It serves as an opportunity to highlight Morocco as a key sports hub for rally racing.
On this occasion, Mr. Ahmed El-Sentisi, President of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, emphasized that choosing Fez as the starting point for the rally is a strategic step to boost tourism in the city. He explained that the event will shine a spotlight on Fez on the 44th anniversary of its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The rally is expected to attract over 1,500 participants and generate approximately 10,000 overnight stays, contributing to local tourism activities.
Rally director David Castera expressed his excitement for the return of the rally’s start from Fez after a successful experience in 2018. He pointed out that the event will receive widespread media coverage, reaching 190 countries, highlighting the global significance of this rally. The new route will feature five stages, starting from Fez, then extending to Erfoud and Merzouga.
The press conference was attended by several Moroccan champions who had remarkable achievements in previous editions, including Hanan Amraoui, who secured a top position in the first-ever Moroccan women’s participation in the 2024 Rally, and Salim Al-Dahiri, who excelled in the motorcycle category. These champions affirmed that their ambition this year is to raise the Moroccan flag high, despite logistical and financial challenges.
At the conclusion of the conference, organizers and participants called on the relevant authorities and the private sector to provide necessary support, ensuring the success of the event, which has become an opportunity to elevate Morocco’s name on the international stage. They also urged support for aspiring youth and women striving for excellence in this field, stressing that backing from responsible parties will contribute to outstanding results locally and internationally.
