Occupied Jerusalem – In a fresh provocative move, widely circulated videos on social media platforms showed the extremist Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, along with several government and Knesset members, accompanied by a group of settlers, storming the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. This incursion coincides with what the occupation refers to as “Jerusalem Day.”
In a video he published on his Telegram channel, Ben-Gvir appeared from within Al-Aqsa’s courtyards, with the Dome of the Rock Mosque visible behind him, stating: “I ascended to the Temple Mount for Jerusalem Day. I prayed for victory in the war, for the return of all our captives, and for the success of the new Shin Bet head, David Zini. Happy Jerusalem Day.” These statements and actions are considered a dangerous escalation that violates the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and provokes the anger of Muslims.
Strong Jordanian Condemnation and Warning of Consequences:
Official reactions were swift, with the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemning the incursion and the “rejected provocative practices” that accompanied the march. The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Sufian Qudah, emphasized that “the practices of this extremist minister and his continuous incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque do not negate the fact that East Jerusalem is an occupied city over which Israel has no sovereignty.”
Qudah affirmed “the Kingdom’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of this incursion, considering it a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and an attempt to impose new facts in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque – Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and attempts to divide it temporally and spatially.” He also considered these actions to “reflect an absurd and unacceptable escalation of the situation in light of Israel’s expansion of its war on the Gaza Strip and its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank.”
The Jordanian official spokesperson warned against “the grave consequences of the continuation of these violations,” demanding that Israel, as the occupying power, halt all provocative practices by the extremist Minister Ben-Gvir and extremist settlers, which are a continuation of the extremist Israeli government’s policy aimed at continuing the dangerous escalation in the West Bank and incursions into Palestinian cities.
Qudah reiterated that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety of 144 dunams, is a pure place of worship for Muslims. He stressed that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over1 managing the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque – Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and regulating entry thereto.
This incursion comes amid escalating tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories and raises serious concerns about further fueling the conflict in the region.
