Local sources in the Tamhdit commune, part of the Ifrane province, have reported a significant slowdown in the pace of several development projects. The delays are said to be negatively impacting residents’ daily lives and exacerbating regional and social disparities.
According to the same sources, infrastructure projects are progressing slowly, leading to the deterioration of roads and key pathways that connect Tamhdit to nearby centers—an issue that hinders both the movement of residents and the transportation of goods.
Testimonies from the area highlight that educational institutions in Tamhdit are suffering from a severe lack of equipment and poor infrastructure. Some schools reportedly lack even the basic conditions of safety and comfort, severely affecting students’ learning, especially during the harsh winters and due to the area’s challenging geography. Additionally, the quality of healthcare services has seen a noticeable decline.
Local civil society organizations have expressed frustration over what they describe as a state of “developmental stagnation,” criticizing what they see as institutional complacency in monitoring ongoing projects, particularly those aimed at creating job opportunities and reducing youth unemployment.
Community stakeholders are urging both regional and national authorities to intervene urgently, calling for a participatory approach that places the citizen at the heart of the development process.
