Large Taxi Sector Union in Fez Commends Successful Professional Meeting and Outlines Key Demands

Fez: The Regional Bureau of the Large Taxi Sector in Fez has expressed its sincere thanks and warm congratulations for the success of today’s professional meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the National Union of Labor in Morocco (UNTM). The bureau noted the significant attendance of representatives from the five local offices, bureau members, and professionals from various taxi ranks, with approximately 96 professionals and union members present.

During this meeting, several key issues concerning the large taxi sector in Fez were studied and discussed, including:

  • Increased pressure on professionals operating within the urban area, including restrictions on their legal work.
  • The escalating problem of informal transportation, both traditional and app-based, as well as the issue of dual transport services.
  • The shortage of designated taxi ranks and their inadequate preparation, in addition to the issue of tax payment for illegal parking and the pressure exerted by the municipal tax authorities.
  • The absence of signage for large taxis at the gates of the old city, depriving them of transporting tourists and the control exerted by some tourist transport vehicles over these locations.
  • Judicial rulings that professionals believe aim to displace them.
  • The prevailing chaos at Fez-Saïss Airport caused by app-based informal transportation and some drivers of the limited number of large taxis operating in the Oulad Tayeb area.

The Regional Bureau affirmed that, in coordination with their brothers in the Coordination Committee, they will confront and fight all the aforementioned problems, as well as other unmentioned issues, through all legal means. They also pledged to inform professionals of any protest movements undertaken in the near future to achieve all legitimate demands of the sector.

In conclusion, the Regional Bureau extended a message of appreciation to all professionals and union members who attended the meeting, considering their presence a “strong and new boost of energy for the entire sector.” They also urged those who were absent to bear their responsibility in supporting the sector’s issues.

Signed: Hammani Ibrahim, National Union of Labor in Morocco (U.N.T.M).
