Moulay Yacoub: Regional Education Office Strongly Condemns Break-In at Preschool Units Amid Widespread Outrage Among Teachers

The Regional Office for Preschool Education in Moulay Yacoub, affiliated with the National Federation of Education – Democratic Orientation (FNE), has strongly condemned what it described as a “barbaric intrusion” into two preschool units belonging to the Azawiya school group by an unidentified group on May 10.

In a statement received by the newspaper, the office considered the incident a “serious violation of the sanctity of educational institutions and the normal functioning of the teaching process,” particularly since the intrusion took place without any prior coordination, notification, or legitimate educational or legal justification. This, the statement said, caused great confusion among the educators and negatively impacted their morale.

According to the same statement, the intruders filmed the interior of the two units randomly and without prior permission, in clear violation of administrative and educational regulations. This led to feelings of frustration and humiliation among the female educators, who felt that their efforts had been “cast aside,” as the statement put it.

The regional office condemned what it described as “irresponsible and degrading behavior,” stressing that “a school is not a free-for-all space,” and held the local and regional authorities accountable for what occurred. It called for a serious and thorough investigation to hold those involved accountable and to protect the dignity of preschool educators.

The statement also urged all educational and union actors to “stand united and confront all attempts to undermine the dignity of those working in preschool education,” while appealing to all conscientious voices to “defend the integrity of public schools and safeguard the dignity of its staff.”

It concluded by reaffirming the National Federation of Education’s commitment to continuing its struggle for a democratic public education system that upholds the dignity of all its contributors.
