Gaza: Hamas Releases Video of Alive Israeli Hostages, Calls for End to War

Gaza – The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, released a video on Saturday showing two alive Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip, in which one of them calls for an end to the war in the Palestinian territory.

Israeli media identified the two men in the slightly over three-minute video as Elkana Bohbot and Yossef-Haïm Ohana, who were abducted in Israel during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. AFP was unable to determine the date of the recording.

The two men are filmed in a small, confined space, one sitting cross-legged, with a shaved head and a tattooed arm, speaking while gesturing with his hands, and the other lying under a blanket, visibly weakened and remaining silent.

Speaking under duress, as is the case with all hostages appearing in videos released by the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the man with the shaved head explains that his companion is in a very difficult physical and mental state, and calls on Israeli leaders to end the war in Gaza.

Aged 24 and 36 respectively, Yossef-Haïm Ohana and Elkana Bohbot were abducted from the Nova music festival in southern Israel during the October 7 attack, which triggered the war in the Gaza Strip. Both had already appeared in videos released by Hamas since their abduction.

During the October 7 attack, 251 people were abducted. Fifty-eight hostages are still being held in Gaza, including 34 who are dead according to the Israeli army. Hamas is also holding the remains of an Israeli soldier killed during a previous war in Gaza in 2014.
