Rabat – Elements of the Royal Armed Forces responsible for coastal surveillance successfully thwarted two separate illegal immigration attempts targeting the Spanish Canary Islands on Wednesday. The operations resulted in the interception of a total of 156 individuals attempting to migrate aboard five inflatable boats.
A press release issued by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces stated that the first operation took place approximately 47 kilometers southwest of Sidi Ifni, while the second operation was carried out 51 kilometers northeast of the port of Tan-Tan. Military units were able to intercept the five inflatable boats carrying the would-be immigrants.
The press release added that the rescued individuals received the necessary first aid before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the completion of the standard administrative and legal procedures in such cases.
These operations are part of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Royal Armed Forces and Moroccan authorities to combat illegal immigration networks, secure national coastlines, and protect lives from the dangers of these perilous journeys. These vigilant interventions underscore the high level of readiness of the elements responsible for coastal surveillance and the effectiveness of the security measures taken in this regard.
