The Schengen visa for special occasions—such as attending a wedding or participating in an international conference—has become one of the most sought-after visa types by Moroccans wishing to travel to European Union countries. However, obtaining it requires meeting a set of strict conditions and submitting a complete file that clearly proves the legitimacy of the invitation and purpose of travel.
European consulates accredited in Morocco emphasize that applications related to events are carefully scrutinized. They require an official invitation that includes detailed information about the event to be attended—whether a professional meeting or a family celebration—alongside supporting documents that verify the relationship between the applicant and the inviting party.
The procedures also require attaching a copy of a valid passport and a recent photo, as well as proof of health insurance that covers the stay in the Schengen area, confirmed return travel reservations, and financial documents that demonstrate the applicant’s ability to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
In the case of family events, such as weddings, consular services demand proof of family ties—such as a certificate of kinship, old photographs, or chat records—while conference participants must provide signed invitations from the organizing bodies and documents confirming their professional or academic involvement.
Health insurance and detailed travel plans are among the essential components considered. Applicants are expected to submit a cover letter explaining the purpose of the visit and planned activities, demonstrating their intent to return to Morocco once the event concludes.
Given the rise in seasonal applications—especially in summer and at the end of the year—consulates advise applicants to submit their requests at least two months before the event to avoid delays that may prevent them from attending.
Despite the personal nature of these visas, rejections are still possible if doubts arise about the applicant’s travel intentions or if the submitted documents are incomplete or weak. Therefore, thorough preparation and accuracy in the application file are crucial for increasing the chances of approval.
