London: British police on Sunday arrested five individuals, including four Iranian nationals, on suspicion of plotting a “terrorist act.” Police stated that the arrests took place in various areas including London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester, and relate to the “suspicion of a plot to target a specific location.”
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement on Sunday that their Counter Terrorism Command had carried out the arrests on Saturday. They added that the men arrested are aged between 29 and 46 years old and are currently in custody on suspicion of “the preparation of terrorist acts.” Police noted that work is underway to establish the nationality and age of the fifth person arrested.
Dominic Murphy, Head of the Counter Terrorism Command at the Metropolitan Police, explained, “This is a fast-moving investigation, and we are working closely with those at the location that is the focus of this investigation to ensure they are kept informed of developments.”
Murphy also stated that “The investigation is still in its early stages, and we are exploring various lines of enquiry in order to establish any potential motivation, and to understand if there is any wider risk to the public connected to this matter.”
