Libreville: The Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI today, Saturday, in Libreville, at the inauguration ceremony of Gabon’s President-elect, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the “Friendship Stadium,” attended by several heads of state and government, speakers of parliaments, representatives of international organizations, and foreign delegations. Oligui Nguema took the constitutional oath as President of Gabon for a seven-year term.
Talbi Alami was accompanied at the ceremony by the Moroccan Ambassador to Gabon, Abdellah Sbihi.
King Mohammed VI had previously sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of Gabon on the occasion of his victory and assumption of the presidency.2 In his message, the King emphasized the “distinguished model of fruitful and sustainable cooperation” between Morocco and Gabon, describing it as “cooperation between Southern and African countries alike, based on solidarity and mutual support,” and highlighting the “close and long-standing fraternal ties” between the two peoples.
The King also expressed “the Kingdom of Morocco’s keenness to continue its serious work with the sister Republic of Gabon to further strengthen these distinguished ties and expand the horizons of their bilateral cooperation in various areas of common interest.”
It is worth noting that Oligui Nguema won the presidential election held on April 12th, securing 94.85 percent of the votes.
