On the evening of Friday, April 25, 2025, the conference hall at the Palace of Justice in Fez hosted a national seminar under the theme: “The Right to Strike Between Constitutional Protection and Legal Restrictions.” The event was organized by the local office of the National Union of Justice Employees in Fez, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union, in partnership with the Association of Justice Employees in Morocco.
The seminar, which began at exactly 3:30 p.m., witnessed a significant turnout of academic researchers, legal experts, and union activists, who enriched the debate on one of the most pressing topics currently dominating the human rights and legal landscape in Morocco.
During the seminar, the speakers addressed various aspects of the issues surrounding the exercise of the right to strike — balancing the guarantees provided by Article 29 of the Moroccan Constitution with the restrictive measures proposed in draft organic laws, which have sparked widespread controversy within union and human rights circles.
In his opening remarks, the representative of the union’s local office emphasized that the seminar comes amid growing concerns about the potential infringement on the freedom to strike. He stressed the need for collective engagement in public debate to develop a balanced legal framework that guarantees the right without arbitrary restrictions.
The seminar concluded by reaffirming the centrality of social dialogue in managing strike-related matters and calling for the adoption of an organic law that aligns with the requirements of the Moroccan Constitution and safeguards union achievements.
It is worth noting that this event is part of the National Union of Justice Employees’ efforts to engage with major societal debates and to enhance legal awareness among justice sector employees and society at large.
