Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, confirmed that the recent rainfall and snowfall had a clearly positive impact on several mountainous regions, particularly in improving groundwater levels and spring flow.
Speaking during a parliamentary Q&A session on Monday, the Minister explained that these precipitations contributed to rising water levels in several basins, especially in the Oum Er-Rbia and Khénifra regions, where noticeable improvements were recorded in spring flows and watercourses.
In this context, the government official emphasized that the government is continuing its efforts to accelerate the pace of dam construction and seawater desalination projects, considering them strategic solutions to address the water scarcity crisis, especially in light of the climate changes affecting Morocco.
The Minister noted that some existing dams have already begun to benefit from the recent precipitation, including Al Hansali Dam and Bin El Ouidane Dam. These improvements will enhance the supply of drinking water and irrigation for agricultural lands, particularly in rural areas suffering from water vulnerability.
Baraka concluded that this momentum falls within a comprehensive vision adopted by the government to manage water resources and ensure their sustainability for the benefit of the population, especially in areas severely impacted by successive years of drought.
