Crown Prince Inaugurates the 17th International Agriculture Show in Meknes Under the Theme of Water and Sustainable Development

Meknes: His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan presided today, Monday, at the Mechouar Stinia – Sahrij Souani in Meknes, over the official opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the International Agriculture Show in Morocco (SIAM). This significant event is held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, from April 21st to 27th, under the central theme highlighting the importance of water in the agricultural sector and sustainable development: “Agriculture and the Rural World: Water at the Heart of Sustainable Development.”

The inauguration of this show by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince is a renewed embodiment of the special attention that His Majesty the King consistently grants to the vital agricultural sector. This event also reflects the depth of the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment, under His Majesty’s leadership, to global priority issues, foremost among which are achieving food security, promoting sustainable development, and combating climate change, which directly impacts the agricultural sector and water resources.

Upon his arrival at the showgrounds, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince reviewed a detachment of the Royal Guard who rendered the honorary salute. He was greeted by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, the Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, the President of the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, the Governor of1 Meknes Prefecture, the President of the Meknes Prefectural Council, the President of the Meknes Communal Council, and the President of the Mechouar Stinia Commune.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan also received greetings from the President of the Fez-Meknes Regional Chamber of Agriculture, the Pasha of Mechouar Stinia, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the International Agriculture Show in Morocco and the show’s sponsors, the President of the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture, the President of the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development,2 and the Acting General Commissioner of the show.

At the entrance of the International Agriculture Show in Morocco, His Royal Highness was greeted by Benjamin Haddad, the French Minister Delegate in charge of European and Foreign Affairs, as the French Republic is the guest of honor for this edition. Greetings were also extended by figures representing the foreign countries invited to participate in this important event, namely: Angola, Benin, Central Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Iraq, Liberia, Malawi, Uganda, Palestine, São Tomé and Príncipe, and South Sudan. Additionally, development partners who attended the opening included: the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, and the World Water Council.

Following the opening ceremonies, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan paid an inspection visit to the “Regions” pole of the Kingdom, where a commemorative photo was taken with the presidents of the regional councils. His Royal Highness also visited the “Water and Irrigation” and “Research and Innovation”3 pavilions in the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, as well as the stand of the OCP Group (Office Chérifien des Phosphates), to learn about the latest developments and innovations in the agricultural sector and water resource management.
