10 Million Dirhams Allocated to Modernize the Weekly Market of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun

Moulay Idriss Zerhoun: A specific agreement has recently been signed to modernize the weekly market of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun in the Meknes prefecture, with a total financial package of 10 million dirhams, fully funded by the Fez-Meknes Regional Council. The project, which will be overseen by the Regional Agency for Project Implementation (AREP) Fez-Meknes, aims to modernize the market’s infrastructure, improve conditions for traders and consumers, and organize local trade.

The project includes the upgrading of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure, including the creation of marketing platforms, the development of sidewalks, parking lots, and green spaces, and the provision of services and support. The project seeks to contribute to creating job opportunities, promoting local products, and enhancing the attractiveness of the market and the satisfaction of its users.

This modernization falls under the Fez-Meknes Regional Development Program 2022-2027, specifically the “Sustained Growth of Economic Systems and Promotion of Employment” axis. The Regional Agency for Project Implementation will be responsible for supervising studies and works, concluding contracts, and disbursing expenditures, under the supervision of governance bodies including a steering committee, a regional technical committee, and a provincial committee in Meknes.

The agreement includes, in addition to the Regional Council and the Regional Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, the Wilaya of the Fez-Meknes region, the Meknes prefecture, and the councils of the communes of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun and Oualili as signatory parties. Ownership of the facilities, upon completion, will revert to the communes of Zerhoun and Oualili, which will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the market according to a subsequent agreement between them. The financial allocations for the project are scheduled to be transferred during the years 2025 and 2026.
