Official Statement: Smuggling of Prohibited Materials Detected in Several Prisons During Eid al-Fitr Celebrations

In an official statement released this Monday, April 7, 2025, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration announced that there had been cases of smuggling prohibited substances into several prisons during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. This occurred through the exceptional facilitation granted to inmates, allowing their families to bring in food packages for the occasion.

The statement clarified that some individuals took advantage of this religious and humanitarian occasion to smuggle drugs, particularly sedative pills, hidden inside food and sweets that were allowed as part of the exceptional measures taken during the holiday. The Delegation emphasized that the consumption of these substances by prisoners poses a direct threat to the security and stability of the correctional facilities and disrupts the order and discipline within them.

In response to these illegal actions, the General Delegation announced that immediate and decisive measures had been taken. The individuals involved have been apprehended and referred to the appropriate judicial authorities, with public prosecutors being notified of all cases detected.

The statement further noted that these incidents represent a clear violation of the established regulations and undermine efforts to improve detention conditions and enhance the human aspect of prison life, particularly during religious holidays when the administration aims to strengthen family ties and improve the mental well-being of inmates.

The General Delegation emphasized that these incidents would not go unaddressed, affirming its commitment to taking all necessary organizational and legal actions to ensure the security and safety of the prisons, maintain their stability, and protect staff and inmates from any actions that could disrupt internal order.
