Education Sector: Zone 10 Teachers Announce Escalation of Protests Against Ministry

The National Coordination of Zone 10 Teachers has decided to engage in a nationwide strike on April 10 and 11, 2025, along with organizing a protest in front of the Ministry of National Education in Rabat on Thursday, April 10.

This escalation comes in light of what the coordination considers a retreat by the Ministry of National Education from the results of the sectoral dialogue, particularly those reached in the last session on January 9, 2025.

The coordination indicated that the ministry and the government bear full responsibility for the situations that may result from this escalation, due to their insistence on obstructing fairness and making unrealistic promises.

The teachers also renewed their demands regarding the exceptional promotion for all Zone 10 teachers who are graduates of Scale 9, with administrative and financial retroactive effect, and compensation for all those affected without any trade-offs or backtracking on previous agreements.

The teachers called on all union frameworks to support their demands, declaring their rejection of any solution that does not align with their just demands.

The coordination also emphasized its strongly opposing stance to the provisions of the new organizational law on strikes, considering that these provisions aim to restrict the right to strike and turn it into a tool in the hands of the employer, with a failed attempt to legitimize repression.

The past weeks witnessed the issuance of several statements from educational coordinations and unions, denouncing what they described as the supervisory ministry’s continuous retreat from previous promises during the discussion of the draft new basic law for employees of the National Education. Tensions escalated after the ministry of Mohamed Saad Barada announced the rejection by government sectors (such as the ministries of finance and public service) of the demands of Zone 10 teachers and educational administrators.

The dialogue reached a dead end, prompting the five most representative unions to announce the temporary suspension of their participation in the technical committee, as a warning measure until the working methodology is corrected. As a result, educational unions officially announced a return to protests, with an escalation program set for the coming days.
