On Thursday, April 3, 2025, Leila Benali, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, received a high-level French delegation from the Normandy region, led by Mr. Hervé Morin, President of the region, in a meeting seen as a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between Morocco and France in the fields of renewable energy and sustainable development.
The meeting provided an ideal opportunity to expand bilateral partnerships in vital areas related to energy transition. Discussions focused on the development of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and innovation in green hydrogen technology. They also addressed support for capabilities in civil nuclear energy, as well as the exchange of experiences in managing smart energy grids.
Benali emphasized the importance of developing international cooperation to address environmental and climate challenges, noting that under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco considers energy transition a key pillar for achieving energy sovereignty and sustainable development. She also highlighted the strategic partnership between Morocco and France, which was established during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, laying the foundation for strong cooperation in the areas of green hydrogen and clean technologies.
For his part, Mr. Hervé Morin expressed admiration for the progress Morocco has made in the energy transition, stating that the Kingdom has become a leading model in this field at both the African and Mediterranean levels. He also pointed out the significant scientific and industrial potential of the Normandy region in the areas of nuclear energy and green hydrogen, considering these capabilities to make it an ideal partner for enhancing cooperation with Morocco.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Morin called for strengthening partnerships between universities and research institutions in both countries, stressing that collaboration in scientific research and engineering training would play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development and enhancing energy sovereignty for both nations.
The discussions were attended by the French Ambassador to Morocco and several French officials representing various sectors involved in scientific and technological cooperation.
