According to local sources, on Sunday, the Royal Gendarmerie in the Al-Walaja region of Taounate listened to municipal councilor Hicham El-Kouch after he posted photos of electric poles at risk of falling in several areas.
The sources explained that the questioning followed a complaint filed by the National Office of Electricity (ONEE) through its regional directorate.
This complaint sparked a wave of criticism in the region, with local figures arguing that the regional directorate should have provided clarifications regarding the dangerous condition of some electric poles in rural areas, which pose a serious threat to the safety of both residents and livestock. They emphasized that urgent action is needed to prevent potential accidents.
The at-risk poles had previously appeared in media reports, but the relevant authorities had not disclosed any measures taken to address these risks. The photos, which were published in the Bouchaïl commune in the village of Aba Mohammed, led to a legal case being filed against the municipal councilor, who is expected to defend the interests of the local population and present their concerns to the appropriate authorities.
