In a strategic move aimed at improving the management of household and similar waste, the Fes-Meknes Regional Council has approved a framework agreement extending from 2025 to 2034, with an investment of 47 million dirhams. This decision was made during the council’s latest regular session.
The session was chaired by Abdelouahed Ansari, President of the Regional Council, in the presence of the Wali of the Fes-Meknes region and Governor of Fes Prefecture, Moâd El Jamaï, as well as the Governor of Moulay Yacoub Province, Mohamed Samir Khamlichi, alongside various officials and elected representatives.
The agreement was signed during the National Conferences on Advanced Regionalization held in Tangier, providing an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between regional councils and the government in pursuit of sustainable development and enhanced local governance mechanisms.
The initiative includes the establishment and funding of advanced technical landfill and waste recovery centers, as well as the rehabilitation and closure of illegal dumping sites. The project is part of a broader budget of 552 million dirhams, reflecting the commitment of stakeholders to modernizing environmental infrastructure and promoting sustainability standards.
This ambitious project aligns with Morocco’s national efforts to improve waste management through active partnerships between ministries and regional councils. It seeks to develop waste treatment methods and maximize its economic potential rather than merely viewing it as an environmental burden, in line with sustainable development goals.
