A budget of 1.78 billion dirhams (MMDH) will be allocated to upgrade the various road axes leading to the Fez sports complex, in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
A partnership agreement was approved in this regard during the March ordinary session of the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, held last Monday in Moulay Yacoub, during which a series of partnership agreements across various sectors were adopted.
This agreement, part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup, aims to rehabilitate and develop road axes to improve connectivity to the Fez sports complex, thereby enhancing road safety conditions.
These projects are part of the Regional Development Program (PDR) 2022-2027), which has a total investment of 29.5 billion dirhams.
The regional council will contribute 38 million dirhams, while the remaining amount (1.744 billion dirhams) will be mobilized by the Ministries of Economy and Finance, and Equipment and Water, as well as the Fez-Meknes Regional Authority.
As part of strengthening the region’s road infrastructure, the council adopted another partnership agreement aimed at enhancing the road network in the various prefectures and provinces of the region, with a total investment estimated at over one billion dirhams.
This amount will be equally distributed between the regional council (508 million dirhams) and its partners (508 million dirhams). This agreement comes as part of the implementation of several projects included in the ongoing Regional Development Program.
According to council data, the road network in the Fez-Meknes region totals 7,625 kilometers, representing 18.5% of the national road network. National roads in the region span 918 kilometers, while regional axes cover 1,695 kilometers. The provincial network totals 5,012 kilometers.
