Good News! Morocco Bids Farewell to Drought and Welcomes Rain: Noticeable Weather Changes Throughout March

After months of dry weather and an absence of rainfall, Morocco is experiencing significant weather changes as rain returns to many regions across the country. These changes follow an extended period of unusually high temperatures and an unprecedented drought.

In this context, Houcine Youabed, Head of Communications at the General Directorate of Meteorology, stated that Morocco is currently witnessing a noticeable seasonal shift. He explained that the current weather changes are due to a weakening of the high-pressure system, adding in a press statement that meteorologists expect rainy conditions throughout March, with ongoing weather disturbances and precipitation across different parts of the kingdom.

Youabed pointed out that these changes are linked to the movement of the high-pressure system, which had previously blocked rainfall from reaching Morocco. This shift has now allowed multiple successive low-pressure systems to pass through, bringing thunderstorms and snowfall to some regions since last week. He predicted that these weather disturbances would continue, with rainfall expected in the northern and central areas, becoming particularly heavy on Thursday and extending to the Tiznit region, accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall.

On the other hand, Friday is expected to bring a temporary improvement in weather conditions before a stronger low-pressure system arrives over the weekend. This system is set to bring heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, covering most regions of the country, along with strong winds along the northern and central coastlines.

The central regions are already seeing good rainfall, with expectations of increased intensity on Saturday and Sunday, particularly in the Marrakech and Souss regions, extending to other central areas.

It is worth noting that these current weather disturbances were absent during December and January, as the Azores High had previously prevented many low-pressure systems from reaching Morocco. In contrast, countries such as Portugal and western Europe benefited from significant amounts of rainfall.
