“Fes News” has learned from reliable sources that the Fes Dry Port officially began operations yesterday, marking a significant addition to the logistics infrastructure of the Fes-Meknes region. This strategic project is expected to enhance the region’s competitiveness both nationally and internationally.
Located in the Bensouda Industrial Zone, the dry port spans 5.5 hectares and is connected to the railway network, with easy access to national roads and highways. It serves as a key logistics hub for receiving, handling, storing, and distributing import and export containers.
The project aims to simplify customs clearance procedures, reduce transportation costs, and streamline import and export operations, enabling companies to improve their competitiveness and support the local economy.
Key logistics and economic benefits of the Fes Dry Port:
✅ Lower logistics costs compared to road transport, allowing local businesses to cut operational expenses.
✅ Faster customs clearance through advanced digital procedures that speed up cargo processing.
✅ Direct rail connection between Fes and Casablanca Port, ensuring faster and more secure container transportation without delays.
Omar Tajmouti, Regional President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) in Fes, emphasized the positive impact of the new port:
“This new infrastructure will bring a significant transformation to the region’s logistics sector, enhancing Fes-Meknes’ attractiveness for investment.”
Future expansion plans
Sources from Fes News revealed that future expansion projects are already in place, including railway extensions to accommodate a larger volume of containers and meet the increasing demand from local and international investors.
Alignment with Morocco’s National Investment Charter
The Fes Dry Port is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to strengthen its logistics infrastructure, boost exports, and support industrial and international trade activities.
Experts forecast that the dry port’s operations will contribute to a regional GDP growth rate of 3.3% by 2025 and 3.5% by 2026, driven by expanding industrial, logistics, and trade sectors.
With its official launch, the Fes Dry Port reflects a clear vision for regional development, improving investment appeal and solidifying Fes-Meknes as a major logistics and economic hub in Morocco.
