Football: Rising Star Ibrahim Rabbaj Chooses Morocco Over England

Morocco’s national teams continue to attract dual-national players. This time, Chelsea’s young talent Ibrahim Rabbaj has ended the speculation by choosing to represent Morocco instead of England, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Ibrahim Rabbaj is officially an “Atlas Lion cub.” After a fierce battle between the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and its English counterpart, one of the most promising attacking players of his generation has decided to wear the Moroccan jersey, turning down the opportunity to play for England.

Born in London in 2009 to Moroccan parents, Rabbaj is considered one of the brightest talents in football. With Chelsea’s U16 team, he has scored 52 goals and provided 60 assists in just 40 matches. Known for his ambidexterity, he is comfortable playing on both wings.

The young player recently joined Morocco’s U17 national team, known as the “Atlas Lion Cubs,” for an international tournament organized by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. While at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, he spoke about his international future, stating, “I played with England, but now I want to play for Morocco. Insha’Allah, I will play in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, we will win, and make our country proud. I want to score goals, be decisive, showcase my skills, and win the Africa Cup.”

This decision was confirmed on Monday by journalist Fabrizio Romano, who announced on X (formerly Twitter) that “Chelsea’s 2009-born talent, Ibrahim Rabbaj, has committed to the Moroccan national team.”

Romano also added that the “Messi of Chelsea” will participate in the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco from March 30 to April 19, “despite pressure from the English FA to secure his commitment.”

This news is a significant boost for the future of Moroccan football, given Rabbaj’s immense talent, which is expected to make him a key player for the national teams in the coming years.
