Joint Security Operation at Guerguerat Border Crossing Thwarts Cocaine Smuggling Attempt, Seizes 183 Kilograms of Drugs

A joint security operation between elements of the National Security and Customs Administration at the Guerguerat border crossing, south of the city of Dakhla, on Tuesday, February 11, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs, resulting in the seizure of 183 kilograms and 200 grams of cocaine.

The meticulous border monitoring operation, which involved trained police dogs, led to the discovery of the drug shipments carefully hidden in cavities within the metal frame of an international goods transport truck bearing Moroccan license plates. The truck was arriving from one of the sub-Saharan African countries, and its 34-year-old driver was also apprehended.

A preliminary investigation has been opened into the case under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine all the circumstances and details of the incident, identify those involved, and trace the extensions of this criminal network at the national, regional, and international levels.

This operation is part of the intensive and ongoing efforts by Moroccan security services at the Guerguerat border crossing to combat the smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as to enhance border control to tackle transnational crime.
