Fez Municipal Council Approves Over 142 Million MAD for Development Projects

During its regular February session, the Fez Municipal Council approved the allocation of more than 142 million MAD to implement a series of development projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and essential services. The financial surplus recorded for the year 2024 will be directed towards water, electricity, and wastewater network connections, with part of the funds allocated to the Fez-Region Development Company to support major urban projects.

The approved decisions include 15 new projects focused on enhancing infrastructure, particularly road and street development, to improve the city’s aesthetics, facilitate traffic flow, and ensure safer mobility for residents. The council also approved a municipal regulation defining the terms and conditions for the temporary occupation of public communal property without construction, ensuring an organized and fair use of urban space.

One of the key decisions adopted was the approval of a partnership agreement with the Fez-Region Development Company, outlining mechanisms for collaboration and the distribution of project management responsibilities between the Fez-Meknes Regional Administration, the Fez Municipal Council, and the designated company. This agreement aims to finance and implement vital projects related to urban development, public facilities, sports infrastructure, and the enhancement of surveillance systems.

To support the public transport sector, the council approved the allocation of a land plot for the construction of a dedicated parking facility for urban transport buses, a step aimed at improving this essential service.

In a press statement, Abdel Salam Al-Bekkali, President of the Municipal Council, emphasized that the approved decisions are “highly significant” and will have a direct impact on the future of the city. He highlighted that the financial surplus, exceeding 200 million MAD, will be invested in services that directly benefit citizens, such as sports fields, green spaces, swimming pools, roads, and the rehabilitation of underdeveloped neighborhoods.
