Fes News followed the communication meeting held by Abdelkabir Akhchichen, the new president of the National Union of Moroccan Press, with journalists on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Fes. The meeting, attended by several professionals in the journalism field, featured important discussions about the developments in the journalism profession in Morocco and the need for urgent legislative changes.
After the meeting, Akhchichen emphasized the urgent need to accelerate the formulation of laws that regulate the press profession in the country. He pointed out that these laws should result from consultations between the government and professionals. He stated, “There must be effective consultations to ensure that the legislative texts presented to parliament are capable of improving the profession’s reality and achieving a balance between journalists’ rights and the demands of journalistic work.”
Akhchichen also stressed the importance of active participation by journalists in this legislative debate, urging them to engage positively with these changes. “We need a kind of involvement and passion at this stage, especially in light of upcoming challenges both continentally and internationally,” he added.
In addition to the legislative aspect, Akhchichen addressed the need to improve the working environment for journalists, explaining that Morocco must work towards creating a professional environment that respects journalists’ dignity and provides them with the right conditions to produce distinguished media content. “Journalism should be capable of delivering a competitive media discourse both nationally and internationally, and this requires a professional and ethical journalistic environment,” he noted.
In conclusion, Akhchichen stressed the importance of continuous training for journalists, indicating that improving the ethics of the profession and developing journalists’ skills are essential steps in raising the level of Moroccan media.
