In an exclusive statement to “Fes News” yesterday evening, Mr. Naji El Fakhari, President of the Chamber of Handicrafts, emphasized the new dynamic in the handicraft sector, driven by a comprehensive development vision. This initiative aims to strengthen the role of handicrafts as an economic and cultural pillar in the Fez-Meknes region. Mr. El Fakhari praised the crucial role of the region’s Wali, noting that his continuous presence and support have been instrumental in accelerating progress in this field.
El Fakhari announced the launch of several significant projects designed to develop the sector. Among these is the Craft District project in Fez, which aims to provide modern spaces for artisans working in various fields such as carpentry, artistic blacksmithing, electrical work, and mechanics. The project will house 140 industrial units and is expected to be completed within a year and a half, with a financial allocation of 20 million dirhams.
Additionally, he unveiled plans for a permanent exhibition center for handicrafts in Fez. This facility will serve as a specialized platform to showcase and promote artisanal products both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, the chamber is developing a modern headquarters to reflect the importance of the sector and its artisans.
In the context of environmental protection and sustainability, Mr. El Fakhari highlighted an initiative to replace traditional kilns with gas-powered ones across various provinces in the region. This project, funded with 8 million dirhams, aims to improve working conditions for artisans while reducing environmental impact.
The chamber is also forging partnerships with local authorities in provinces such as Taounate, Meknes, and Ifrane. These collaborations aim to expand the scope of projects and ensure fair distribution of development opportunities across the region. All these efforts align with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who places great importance on sustainable regional development and the preservation of cultural heritage.
In closing, Mr. El Fakhari expressed optimism that these initiatives will improve artisans’ working conditions and enhance the handicraft industry’s role as a vital economic sector. This sector not only preserves Morocco’s cultural identity but also boosts the global competitiveness of local artisanal products.
